I’ve noticed recently there’s been an increase in users posting the rule templates on multiple boards and threads. There isn’t much wrong about that, since it encourages people to learn the rules effectively, but I’ve been seeing it done in ways that discourage people from returning from the wiki or in general are used incorrectly.
This is not a post about recent events or specific people in general. Do not take that approach.
Rule templates are to be used with a good meaning behind them. Something with them to encourage people and at the same time explain their mistake, especially with anonymous users. I’d rather they not be posted with zero explanation behind them or something like “you broke a rule, don’t do that”.
I’ve been getting this aura of posting all these rules in order to trigger a staff reaction to the post or encourage more suspensions. I seriously hope that’s not the case or anyone’s intention, because that gives us a bad name and is essentially an exploit.
I consider myself lenient but I will not give two shits about anyone if they blatantly target or harass others. I offer explanations for them to go along with the actions.
Anyway, back on topic.
Some rules in particular need to be specified I think, rules 4 and 7. Rule 4 is for reviving threads, and Rule 7 is for multiple posts by the same person in a row.
Rule 4 is basic. It’s pretty staple on multiple other wikis, and some go as far as to mix it with comments and message walls. We don’t. The problem about this comes from the use.
I specify a revive as any post on a thread untouched for at least 14 days. HOWEVER. If that user who “revived” is posting an update, something related, or in case of role ideas, something of value or discussion about the role idea, then it ain’t a revive.
Rule 7 focuses on multiple posts in a row. We added it to discourage shitposting and spamming, which was a large issue at the time. However, we found out taking it too seriously was an issue, so once again, things related to updates or specification is fine. Staff won’t always merge your posts, and editing posts is annoying and people may not see the edit anyway. The rule applies when someone posts 4 times with the content of “fkekejdkckxm” “bigbrainpenismilk” “tos sucks” “lololololololololololololol” or other garbage.
Just be courteous in what you do. Take their perspective first before posting a rule template and possibly discouraging people from coming back. Just be sensible.
or you’ll find out where bigbrainpenismilk comes from
