Name: Convict
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Attack: None
Defense: Basic
Unique Role: Yes
Abilities:
-At day, use your ability to choose to eavesdrop on the Jailor's night chat. This has 2 uses in a game. The use isn't used up and fails if you are jailed. You cannot speak to the Jailor or Jailee. You may speak to a medium seancing you while still seeing the Jailor chat, obviously neither party in the jail sees you talking to the Medium.
-Passively at night, you will know what player the Jailor hauls off to jail.
-Once the Jailor dies, you steal his handcuffs and can jail a player at night, replacing your Eavesdrops. [Additional balancing may be required that limits his jailing power] Convict can speak with the player jailed, and will show up as Convict in chat. Convict cannot execute, but has a unique ability in its place: He can instantly release a player on the spot, ending the conversation instantly and they can use their night ability [They can also choose targets while in jail to try and hope they can convince convict to release them.] Convict loses his jailing ability and regains any charges of Eavesdrops he had previously if Jailor is revived.
Attributes:
-Role Dependant [Requires Jailor]
-When jailed, if you are executed the execution will fail, wasting an execution. This will be a dead giveaway of course, but knowing how scary a Convict can be when jailor dies may convince town to lynch him early.
-If Jailor does not execute, you will peek a look at his face, seeing what player the Jailor is. Jailor is not notified.
-Players who remain jailed cannot use their night action. They however gain defense by being jailed. This does not apply if he releases them.
-Investigative Results-
Sheriff: Your target seems Innocent.
Investigator: Your target could be a Spy, Blackmailer, Jailor, [Guardian Angel] or Convict
Consigliere/Witch: Your target has a seething grudge against the Jailor and anyone who looks up to him. They must be a Convict.
Goal: Survive to see the Town fall.
Wins With: Mafia, Coven, Neutral Killing, Witch, Neutral Benign, Neutral Chaos
Must Kill: Town
Color: Convict's role color would either be a dark orange [like modern prison outfits, but could be too similar to Arso] or pale blue/nearly gray [Like the faded blue stripe in white and blue striped prisoner outfits.]
Notes: This role was came up with by a redditor [abluepottedplant] and I expanded upon it trying to balance it and make it balanced while also adding to the game. I won't post their lore but it was pretty good, I don't necessarily want to plagiarise their idea since they may not personally agree with the large amount of changes I made.
Purpose/Reason: This provides a few things. First off, the Jailor is weakened even if convict isn't in that specific game, the fear is there. It also provides a truly evil NE, that town cannot ignore easily. It can provide information to any evil and can detriment the town once the Jailor is taken out. Naturally, this role works very well at siding with NK as mafia can only vote him up to get rid of him while Convict can trap an MK or just general mafia. I do wonder about if certain balances should be in place about him jailing the same person in a row. An evil jailor is no doubt powerful. I don't doubt it may not be 100% balanced but suggestions are welcome.
