Would you completely mind if I nominated you to be ToTM? I got the suggestion (by Slugkitty) that I should probably ask before actually posting a nomination. If you say no, that's fine, I just think you're really deserving of it.
Thank you for the appreciation. In terms of ToTM, not too sure about that. I'm working towards being a better member and I don't think I'm exactly ready for receiving that reward just yet, but I'll be working on it.

ToTM, for me, is more representative of the time and effort people have spent on here, but your outlook is certainly something as well. Couldn't agree more with the rest, though.
Yeah I'm not really obsessed with townie of the month, as it really isn't much of an honor to receive it. Plenty of people haven't received the reward and deserve it. Doesn't make a difference if you don't receive it, if you actually contribute people will recognize it ToTM or not

It's true that you'll still be recognised for merit regardless of winning ToTM or not, but there are people who haven't received the reward despite deserving it because voters don't always correlate contribution with someone they should vote for. This problem is caused by people appreciating the contributions of one person, but voting for another even if they don't really believe they're more worthy of winning than everyone else. Anyone who frequently browses the ToTM board can see people saying "I'm gonna vote for X whenever my account becomes this old", "Okay, I'll vote for you just because you asked" or "Sorry, I can't vote for you because I already promised Y I'd vote for him."
If ToTM doesn't have much value to you because people who deserve to win don't, it's almost definitely because of the voters. If you still ctually care about the wellbeing of the competition, you can always try encourage people to vote for who they really think should win, regardless of anything else, as hard as it may be at times.
Bonus: I think people sometimes feel guilty for not voting for a friend, or someone who's been trying to win for a long time, as they csat their vote on someone they see more fit for the award. A really simple solution I see for this is granting every eligible user two votes. Since we don't all have the same close friends, people who we still appreciate will gain their votes, but those who appeal to everyone with their contributions will still receive the most votes. Additionally, this is no complicated voting system. It's literally just adding a second vote.
