Name

The name may not exceed 16 characters at maximum. Spaces at the end of your name, numbers, symbols such as "&", names with two consecutive capital letters, the same or similar name as another player, and any kind of profanity aren't allowed to be used. If you see anyone bypassing the profanity filter, be sure to report them as soon as possible.

Strategy Edit

  • Make sure your name does not violate the rules. This may result in you being banned. (e.g. ihatejews). Additionally, offensive names can lead to offended evil roles killing you.
    • You might think of using a 'controversial' name if you are equipped with Veteran scrolls. Do still keep in mind that the name does not violate the rules, and you may possibly get another role.
  • Having a confusing name can mess with the Town if you're any role that's not Town, which is usually good. However, having a confusing name can backfire if you're in the Town. Examples of confusing names include: a common ingame term (e.g. Roleblocked), having a name as a role, having a name that's filtered by the chat filter, having a name too similar to someone else, or just having a name that is plain gibberish and annoying to type out (such as "jgejwelfhwkw").
  • You can equip a scroll for any evil role and name yourself similar to someone else so that if you get called out, it'll be harder for the accuser. For example, if you're the Godfather with the name IIIIII and there's another random person with the name IIIII, people will be confused about who the accuser is calling out, which could lower suspicion or have the incorrect person lynched.
    • However, it is more common for Town Investigatives to simply refer to you as a number or put your number in their Last Wills.
    • Alternatively, if the other person is suspicious and you aren't, they may accidentally lynch you over the actual evil.
  • Having names that do not stand out is usually good to survive the first night. An example of a name that doesn't stand out is simply "John" or "happy". Most people's eyes won't fall on this during night time and might target a name that stands out.
  • If there is a theme, check how many players are following it. If the majority are following it, join in to blend in. If only a handful of players are following it, go for your regular name. In games with themes, the majority will often times prosecute the minority (eg: if there are more themed names than non-themed, the themed players will hang the non-themed players).
  • Choosing a single name and sticking to it, which is especially common in Ranked games, can lead to being hunted across games if a user doesn't like you. If you notice you're being targeted whether you're suspicious or not, try temporarily picking a new name if you don't want to wait out the queue.

BackgroundEdit

These names come from the infamous witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. During this time, countless men and women were accused of being witches, and were lynched over the mass hysteria.  Many of these names also come from the 1953 play The Crucible.
