The Cinematographer[]

They sat in their own little world. Daydreaming was their specialty, and once you gave them the spotlight, they were off. It wasn't uncommon for them to hear all about themselves, and they liked it that way. So distracted by their own head were they that gender never came to them. They were an act, and an act could be played by anyone. The others around them may not have understood where they came from, but they would take back their cries about his ignorance and supposed arrogance.

They brought extra lights to create the set. Everyone would see it, and at first, found it annoying. They would laugh in their faces. When the bigger picture was captured by their cameras, they'd be thanking them. And thanking them they did the next day.

It took one mafioso to prove that they were paying attention. A false bodyguard claim was brought to the stand, the people of the town raising their forks, craving the little assassin's death. There became more and more instances just like this one for the cinematographer. They wanted to try "the photographer," but quickly found the name to be rather dull. They weren't there for the photos. They were there for the action. The film. Roll from real video cameras! Once they mastered one person, they could start doing three. They knew that that day, a real star was born. A star among the stars.

Then came the witch claims. At night, the cameras would shut on and off randomly. Much to their surprise, the town pointed fingers to them. Was someone meddling with their equipment? No! No one could do such a thing, not to them! They had helped so much! They refused to believe it, keeping their calm. They assured that it was the mafia. The town shook their head in disappointment. How could they just let the mafia control their equipment like that? Disappointment never swept across their face, but a snide grin did. It was intentional, they stated. They would know about this kind of thing, as they were THEIR cameras, after all. They look at their accuser and sentence them on the stand. They would burn at the stake. Another little assassin, dead from embarrassment again. Now, this was their full grove.

As more little assassins died from embarrassment before them, they raised their camera. Say cheese.

Mechanics:[]

  • You will be able to set up a camera at someone's house each night. This will record any of the roles that visit your target, but not their username.
    • When setting up a camera, the Cinematographer will be able to see between the target and the two targets besides them. You will not be able to tell who visits who, but the right deduction could be used to figure this out.
    • You're very similar to Lookout. With another Lookout in a game, you may be able to tell what role an individual is as long as you give context to the Lookout as to which three your cameras would have picked up.
      • Similar to how a Transporter impacts the results a Lookout gets, the Cinematographer will see that a Transporter visited their target. The results they get will come from those who MOVED to the location, not to those who were originally IN their location. The NEW targets will be the ones you will respond to.
  • You will NOT be able to see the action actions of the roles that visit your target. For example, you cannot confirm if a Doctor healed someone from poison (Coven), though you could deduce if a Doctor healed someone who was attacked even if you're not directly told.
    • You will be able to see roles such as Arsonist and Vampire when they visit one of the three targets you monitor. In the case of the Arsonist, you can assume that they're visiting a target to douse. However, it may be hard to determine if an individual was bitten by a Vampire or not unless if they're a part of the Mafia.
  • When a Framer visits your target, you will not be informed of any Mafia visits among your target. The two homes that are surrounding your target will still pick up visits from the Mafia.
    • Additionally, the Cinematographer will not be able to see any other visits when a Janitor visits their initial target. This DOES include the two targets surrounding you.
    • The Hypnotist may also interfere with investigative results by suggesting that some roles may visit your target and their neighbors that actually do not. Again, this would only affect the target that you choose.
    • Finally, the Cinematographer will be forced to observe the targets a Witch or Coven Leader may force them to without actually knowing the person they visit. This is similar to any other Town role that is affected by being witched.
  • You will not have to take the time to set up cameras like the Trapper has to do with their own traps. This is an action you make take on night one.
  • When you visit your target, if they have been visited by a Plaguebearer, you will also get sick. If one of their NEIGHBORS gets infected by a Plaguebearer, you will NOT get sick. You will be informed of their visit.
    • The same applies to Pestilence, unless if you directly visit the target they rampage at. Otherwise, you are technically watching them through an "Astral Visit".
    • Which then therefore ALSO applies to Werewolf, as you're not actually visiting the target unless if you've selected the person as your own. The Cinematographer can only know the roles of people who visit, but not the actual person for that reason-- they're not actually there to "investigate them".
      • If you're taken to the target by a Witch, you will still die in that case. It entirely depends on who you are made to visit.
    • Your actions will be interrupted if a Pirate blunders you.
  • When a Framer meddles with your camera, you'll be told the following: "Someone messed with your footage last night!"
  • When a Janitor visits your target, you will be told the following: "Someone wiped your footage clean last night!"

Strategies:[]

  • A Cinematographer can sound complicated to play with at first, but there are a list of roles that you can cooperate with to make meaning of your results.
    • A Lookout may be helpful in finding exact individuals who go to your target. This may be able to shrink down how many other roles visit your target, or even shorten your time having to predict which player is which.
    • Additionally, an Investigator can provide more insight on roles that you may have noticed on the prowl. Say, for example, an Arsonist visits your target or one of their two neighbors. An Investigator may find the Arsonist and you can fact check their will if they claim anything like Bodyguard. You may also be able to tell when a Bodyguard visits your target as well, which allows you take down a large threat.
      • A Psychic may be your best friend in a game if one is present. You may be able to pick targets of your own based on the Psychic's readings in order to set up early on in the game. A Crusader should be on a Psychic, so don't waste your time visiting them as a Cinematographer.
  • Your role is able to detect other roles that often go under the radar. A Plaguebearer, Arsonist, and/or Vampire should fear you, as you're able to reveal their existence before they have time to prepare.
  • The Cinematographer can, like a Retributionist, make or break a game. Being able to predict and make guesses can be one of the greatest benefits this role has.
    • For example, try avoiding setting up by targets that have claimed roles such as Veteran. You're wasting your time and possibly, your own life. Be weary of Hypnotists as well, as they will try and throw you off.
    • When in the presence of Framers, you may be able to determine whether or not another individual could actually claim being framed. You give more options to your faction this way, and can eliminate the possibility of neutrals claiming to be "framed" so long as you haven't caught them doing it around you.
  • You're likely to be more successful trying to analyze roles that are confirmed like Jailor or Mayor. For roles claiming to visit in the area, you may be able to confirm other players by showing that a Jailor visited one of those roles.
    • Additionally, a Vampire visiting one of your three targets (your primary one being a possibility) can be spotted by you. You may be able to ask around without mentioning there is a Vampire in order to call them out. You just have to properly play your cards.
